Adrian Curran

Dr. Adrian Curran obtained his degree in Medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1999. He subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, finishing in 2005. Since then, he has been working in the HIV&STI Unit of the Infectious Diseases department and is the coordinator of the Anal Dysplasia Screening Unit at the same hospital, as well as the coordinator of the Clinical Research Unit of the Infectious Diseases department. He is part of the Digital Transformation Committee and the Innovation Committee of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. He is also the principal investigator (PI) of the HIV group in the AIDS Research Network (RIS) at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron.
In 2012, he obtained a Cum Laude Doctorate with a thesis on body composition alterations in patients with HIV infection. In 2013, he completed a Master's in Design and Analysis of Clinical Research at the University of Barcelona. He has supervised two doctoral theses.
His main areas of interest are HIV infection and its treatment, antiretroviral treatment clinical trials, sexually transmitted diseases and anal dysplasia due to HPV.
He participates as a researcher in multiple international clinical trials. He is a reviewer for indexed journals in the field of HIV. He has published more than 140 articles in national and international journals, with over 1100 citations, and chapters in books on various aspects of HIV infection and its treatment, STIs, and HPV. He has been involved in national guidelines for antiretroviral treatment and for several aspects of managing patients with HIV infection, STIs and HPV.
He is also the inventor of a patent for a medical device, owned by the company he co-founded (www.adanmi.com).
Specifically regarding anal dysplasia, he is the coordinator of the Anal Dysplasia Screening Unit of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. He is the author of the chapter regarding HPV anal dysplasia in the latest Spanish STD guidelines. Together with Dr. David Parés, he is the coordinator of the Barcelona HPV Course. He is a member of the International Anal Neoplasia Society, in which he has taken part in the past in the Spanish-Portuguese task force and currently in the Education task force.
