Miguel Mascarenhas

Professor Dr. Miguel Mascarenhas is the Director of the Precision Medicine Unit at the Department of Gastroenterology of Hospital de São João / Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto (FMUP) and Pluridisciplinary Center for AI in Healthcare at FMUP
He holds a PhD focused on the application of artificial intelligence to digestive healthcare and is a pioneer in the integration of AI into gastroenterology and digital endoscopy. He has authored over 200 scientific contributions, including publications and award-winning presentations.
Dr. Mascarenhas was honored with the ACG International Award in both 2022 and 2024—the most prestigious global distinction in the field of gastroenterology—and has received multiple accolades from AGA, ASGE, ESGE, IANS, ECCO, EASL and other international societies.
He currently leads cutting-edge initiatives in AI-assisted diagnosis, precision endoscopy, and digital health, driving the transformation toward data-driven medicine.
