Dr Benjamin Armstrong is a proud palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) man, and clinical microbiologist, who lives and works on Dharug country (Sydney). His interests include laboratory cancer screening tests, and laboratory and clinical sexual health medicine and epidemiology.
Dr Armstrong is the director of microbiology at Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology, and supervises the Sydney laboratory of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. At DHM, he has championed the implementation of HPV PCR testing for use in anal cancer screening and follow-up.
He is an author of the recently released first Australian guidelines for the prevention of anal cancer in people living with HIV.
