Carlos San Mateo, MD, MA, FACS, DABS, DipABLM, FASCRS, is a triple-board-certified colorectal surgeon, general surgery specialist, and lifestyle medicine physician renowned for his expertise in advanced anorectal procedures and preventive cancer screening. He is the founder and president of Alkimiya Surgical Systems, PC, a private practice based in Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA). 
Dr. San Mateo is the Director Emeritus of the Anal Dysplasia Clinic at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco, where he spearheaded the growth of the High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) screening program for HPV-related anal cancer. Passionate about international medical education, he taught the first national HRA workshop and with numerous educational speaking engagements for medical societies across the Philippines. 
His distinguished professional journey includes serving as the primary colorectal surgery specialist for Kaiser Permanente’s Sonoma and Marin County service lines. Academically, he served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine, where his dedication to mentoring next-generation surgeons earned him the prestigious "Attending of the Year" teaching award from the general surgery chief residents. 
Dr. San Mateo’s commitment to clinical advancement is reflected in his numerous publications and presentations at national and international conferences. His expertise spans minimally invasive anorectal surgery, laser and aesthetic medicine, and integrative medicine, currently serving as a fellow at the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.
